Charities
The governing body for charities is the Charity Commission whose aim “is to provide the best possible regulation of charities in England and Wales in order to increase charities effectiveness and public confidence and trust”.
The website www.charitycommission.gov.uk provides a great deal of information and in particular what is relevant to us is “all charities have to prepare annual accounts and may have to and most should, prepare trustees’ annual reports”.
We have acted for charities for many years and witnessed the increased burden of compliance on charities. Statements of Recommended Practice (SORPS) continue to be regularly updated. Financial statements have to be prepared in a special format. Trustees ask for regular and up to date advice and information.
We have fine tuned our systems so that we are able to deal cost effectively with the compliance burden and ensure that we have a sound knowledge of developments in the charity sector, our advice and our input will assure that the trustees are always complying with the latest regulations.
